Have you had the pleasure of unexpectedly coming across jellies elsewhere, online or in real life?

Asked by harple (10448points) July 26th, 2012

I’ve just signed up to twitter, and was delighted to see the Twitter Teacher is our lovely Ben! Great to see, and whilst I knew he was there, it felt special to have the connection.

I know what you feel about the special feeling…

Jellies are so well….gelatinous, they show up everywhere.

deni's avatar

No I have never met a jelly but @cockswain saw me at an intersection the other day, he was driving and I was biking. Small world!

MilkyWay's avatar

@deni How’d ya recognise him?

augustlan's avatar

On several other sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and way back when, on tumblr, too. I’d love to randomly run into another jelly in real life, but it’s not very likely. I’m very glad to have met several in planned get togethers, though. :)

The term pleasure is debatable but yes I have.

jca's avatar

There are some I would love to come across in my bedroom, and some I would love to meet at a party or dinner (i.e. @augustlan), but none yet. One, JLeslie, went to school not far from where I used to live, but that was 20 years ago.

I’ve found that several jellies live in nearby towns, but I’ve never met any of them.

deni's avatar

@MilkyWay I didn’t, he recognized me. I didn’t see him. We’re friends on Facebook though and he messaged me asking if that was me at the particular intersection at that particular time in the specific clothes I had on, I was like SHAH!!!!!!!!!! We were aware that we lived in neighboring towns but still, the chances are quite slim.

ummmm, yes.

heartandsoul's avatar

Yes, but real life is better!

hearkat's avatar

@janbb – What did you just call me?
;-P

linguaphile's avatar

I became in-person friends with a jelly in a nearby town. We’ve gotten together 3 times so far :D

I hope he isn’t stalking you, @deni. I hear those Green Bay fans are a little…uh, you know. ~jk That is cool.

ETpro's avatar

Yes on the Internet. On Facebook, Sodahead and Linkedin. Not yet in real life. But it’s cool even in the virtual world.

Coming across? Has there been a fluther porn shoot?
As far as i’m aware, no I haven’t, but if I ever saw someone walking towards me wearing a fluther tee-shirt, i’m going to be crossing the road, sharpish like.

wilma's avatar

No never, I’m not sure if I want to. I like being anonymous here.
I guess I wouldn’t mind knowing who you were when/if I saw you, but I probably wouldn’t want you to know who I was.

janbb's avatar

@hearkat But an extremely nice gelatinous person. :-) (We should do it again sometime when life slows down a bit!)

deni's avatar

@bkcunningham Yes they tend to be a little funky….my first reaction when he told me was to worry about my personal safety. JK!

I have a bunch of jellies on my Facebook, but I don’t think that any were “unexpected.” Some found me, through mutual friends, but that isn’t very surprising on Facebook. Never in person, and I only know of one that lives within an hour or two of me. Going by my recent question about how secure you feel where you live, I can’t imagine many Flutherites rushing to move closer, either.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

No, I haven’t. There are several that I would really love to meet and hug in person!

LuckyGuy's avatar

I wish. I’d even bring a cooler containing brie, cookies, chocolates, and salmon.

Hey, what ever happened to the map?

TexasDude's avatar

I’m friends with many Jellies on facebook and there are a few who I talk to via phone and texting somewhat regularly.

I haven’t met any in the real world (yet). Not that I can think of off the top of my head, at least.

wundayatta's avatar

It seems like a number of jellies have met expectedly. But unexpectedly? That seems quite difficult. There aren’t that many of us and we’re all over the place. How would we even recognize each other? How many people wear the t-shirt? How many use their faces as their avatars?

My thinking is that to meet another jelly would take an awful lot of planning.

TexasDude's avatar

I can’t fit into my Fluther shirt anymore. :-(

LuckyGuy's avatar

So when/where is the next jelly smack taking place? I’m in.

harple's avatar

@wundayatta That’s why it was such a delight to see Ben’s face as the first one on Twitter as I signed up!

Once I stalked @deni until I found her. I cleverly timed it so I was driving back from the mountains with my wife through a town I rarely visit. My stalking research revealed she’d be in a certain intersection at a certain time. Sure enough she was, and I caught a fleeting glimpse of the elusive deni. Then I casually messaged her like, “hey, just wondering if that was you I saw…” She has no clue what a true freak I am.

deni's avatar

hhahahahahahhahahahhaha I am elusive. I am going to start describing myself that way at job interviews. :P

cockswain's avatar

But seriously, it was really odd to randomly see you. Just driving back the long way home after a weekend in the mountains and there’s someone I glance at for a second while driving like 45mph that looks vaguely familiar, but I can’t place where. Later on it clicked I’d seen pics on facebook. And there it hit me: Deni. Like seeing a legend.
