Is Jon Cryer the first to win best supporting and lead character on same show?

Asked by buckyboy28 (4961points) September 24th, 2012

Jon Cryer won Best Supporting Actor in 2009 and Best Lead Actor last night for his role on “Two and a Half Men”. I know Ed Asner won both for his role as Lou Grant, but it was on two separate shows (“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Lou Grant”, the spin-off).

Is Cryer the first to win both awards for the same role on the same show?

Maybe Kelsey Grammar as Fraisier (on three dif. shows) but I’m guessing.

I have not seen the show lately. Did they expand Cryer’s role after Charlie Sheen was replaced? I don’t think that there is a role expansion that often on a single show, so this very well may be a first.
