Knitted curtains?

Asked by Unbroken (10746points) November 19th, 2012 from iPhone

To all the knitter’s and I am a knitter alone.

I recently moved into a daylight basement. I chose a gauze fabric x4 to let light in in these winter days and for claustrophobia. Works great in daylight but at night time people can see through. So i was thinking about pairing the gauze with a knit but am stumped as to pattern and yarn type. I want to let light in but obscure the interior. I also don’t want it to be heavy as the rods aren’t terribly strong. Any ideas? Side note not a crochet please.
Thanks

What is a “daylight basement”?

I’ve never heard that term.

I don’t know how to knit, but now I want to learn, because I love those curtains.

@DigitalBlue It’s not hard to learn, and the curtains look like a good beginner project. I taught myself how to knit by looking at picture tutorials. Here is a good one if you’re right-handed. Good luck!

@rosehips Glad to help. Thanks for asking the q – I like the curtains enough I may knit a few myself :)

@Buttonstc It is half submerged in the ground, the upper half has windows. Not my favorite residence but the landlord lets me have my cat and I got to to pick paint colors and won’t have to paint it back when I leave.

@DigitalBlue Awesome, I also taught myself here is a reference book I later found that I thought was great and has resources listed.

I still look something up every now and again, it’s an easy read.

@wildpotato you will have to show pics when you are done. : )

@DigitalBlue You are most welcome.

@rosehips Will do!

Aha, I have seen those before, I didn’t know that they were called “daylight basements.”
Thanks for the book link! I tried to knit once before, a long time ago, and I pretty much destroyed a scarf that my sister was working on. I haven’t tried again since, but I’ve always wanted to. Thanks for the resources, and good luck with your curtains. I hope you’ll both post pictures if you get to make them.
