Do you have a favorite non-traditional holiday song?
So, we all know the ”traditional” holiday and winter songs, but there’s a lot more holiday music out there that’s pretty fantastic. For instance, the brilliant Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 by Trans-Siberian Orchestra (who I got to see in concert. Fantastic show) and the silly Elf’s Lament by The Barenaked Ladies and Hanukkah Song by Adam Sandler. Or more mellow, wintery songs, like The River, Winter Song, and Snowfall by Sara Bareilles, Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, and Vienna Teng, respectively. And as an atheist, I always like to see my values reflected in this rather religion saturated time, so something like the Atheist Christmas Carol by Vienna Teng speaks well to me.(and please, no religious bickering here. It will be flagged as inappropriate. Please feel free to post a favorite religious holiday song if you want, but let’s keep arguing out.)
So, I’ve talked (typed?) long enough, any favorite non-traditional songs you want to share? Something we can all put into our various mp3 players to use to drown out the usual ‘traditional’ drone of every shopping this time of year, perhaps?

I grew up a million years ago in Oklahoma, and this song is heard there statewide in December every year. It’s a short jingle for a commercial that runs on radio and TV.
@Hawaii_Jake ahhh i love those childhood jingles from commercials or the radio. I have a few favorites of those, but no Christmas tunes… “sit baaaaaaaaaack, relaaaaaaaax, in a Rohrich Cadilaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaac”. “Eight hundred five eiiiiight eiiiiight two three hunddreeeeed Empireeee! Today!!! Call for next day window treatment too!”
No Pogues?
(NSFW, there’s some adult language in that song.)
I also like Soul Coughing’s version of Suzy Snowflake, which I realize is a traditional song, but their version is so different from Clooney’s.
@cookieman right you are, apologies for misattributing it. I thought it was a cover, but forgot to check before posting.
Great stuff, all! Certainly some excellent additions for my own playlist. Keep ‘em coming if you have more!
@McCool I have many favorites from that episode. Heck, I like them all. I thought I’d pick a song that was covered that was a non-traditional song. If I had to pick a favorite, I might go with O Tannenbaum. Your choice is a favorite too. :)
