What's the best way to get my credit report / score?

Asked by gambitking (4206points) February 1st, 2013

I’ve never pulled my credit report and I have no idea what my score is. It’s high time I get my debts and such in order.

So I need a good, comprehensive report and credit score. I’ve heard about free credit report .com , and they offer $1 reports, but is the report they give me going to be comprehensive enough?

Is there any other places with equally affordable pricing?

you can get a free copy at annualcreditreport.com. This will tell you what your report says but it won’t give you your FICO score. You will have to pay for that.
There are three credit reporting agencies, Equifax,, Experian and TransUnion. and some creditors only report to one or two. Each must give you a free credit report once a year if you request it.

This is where you need to go (at least as a starting point).. Totally free with no hidden charges. No credit card needed to join.

I would stick with the government sanctioned program.

The creditkarma website is legit and quite helpful. It will give you your current credit score for free. The annualcreditreport site is great too for getting a detailed report but it won’t give your score without a fee.

Well I just checked out creditkarma, that place is pretty awesome. They offer quite a bit of information for free and no hassle.

I don’t mind paying the dollar at FCR.com for a full report + score but I think they only give you Experian.
