Is it possible to actually be too full to move?

Asked by Mr_Saturn512 (558points) April 1st, 2013

You know how you always joke about that when you eat too much, but can one actually physically not be able to get up after eating way too much? I guess that also leads into other questions: like how much can a human being eat anyway? Is it possible for your stomach to “burst” in any way from overeating?

No. It would just be uncomfortable.

I remember watching an episode of CSI where a man with Prater Willie syndrome escaped from his house and ate until he burst. I can’t be bothered enough to research the validity in it, but I think CSI tried to make their episodes as accurate as they could.

Prater Willie syndrome is a disorder where among other things, the person feels constantly starving to the point where they have to sometimes be locked up and all of the food in the house is under lock and key to keep them from grossly overeating. It’s very rare.

It’s pretty uncomfortable to move when you think doing so will make you hurl.

Yes it is, but it’s very rare. It’s called gastric rupture.

EDIT:
Here’s an interesting lil article. http://bodyodd.nbcnews.com/_news/2011/11/23/8936799-can-eating-too-much-make-your-stomach-burst?lite

It’s certainly possible to eat so much you don’t want to move. If there was a fire and you failed to get out because of not being able to move, is another question. There have been articles about people weighing so much they were bedridden. I think that’s as close as we get. The skin expands as much as it needs to make room for the fat.

Just saw a documentary on a fellow who was 1000lbs
another who was 700 lbs.
They are never the sme after loosing weight.
Iam sure it left a lasting impression on them.
They probably felt so low about themselves that they turned to food for comfort to fill an empty bottomless pit of dispare?
