Is the Trickster in you? Do you think the Trickster is bad?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30951points) June 2nd, 2013

Do you like to fuck with people? In a good way, or a bad way?

YoU cAn Be ThE tRiCkStEr in many ways. You can help people, or hurt them.

Jason is a recovering meth addict. The fellas at the pool hall allow him to win a few games without serious challenge. The idea is to “trick” Jason into feeling the win. Not to set him up later. Nothing so cynical as that.

But the idea is to remind Jason what it feels like to win. Yes, there are times to Let the Wookie win out of compassion for someone who has been losing for so long that they cannot remember what it feels like to succeed.

I’m amazed at what a few wins, and decent conversation with some decent people, have had a positive affect on Jason’s persona, demeanor, and overall attitude.

Do you ever play the Trickster for the benefit of others?

I used to do it all the time when playing with my kids. Until they began to beat me for real.

It is nice that your group does that. He must never find out.

I’m a bit of a trickster. Never to be nasty and hurtful, but just to play a little. My kids like to play tricks too. I love it. It’s funny. I’ve mentioned that we used to have a male cat that would occasionally spray. So my kids hid under my desk and sprayed my legs with warm water. They also buy weird garden ornaments and put them in my garden when I go away. I’ll suddenly find a garden gnome wearing a thong or some hideous monkey or something.

I once tricked my ex, who was naked, to go out into the hallway of the block of flats we lived in and told him to knock on the door so he could flash me and that it would turn me on. He started it by coming out of the shower and pretending to flash me. I just took it to another level. You know I locked him out… only for a few minutes but it was funny.

The Jester one of the 12 common Archetypes., a concept/term rooted in ancient Greece. The Jester is both good and bad; he is a necessary component in all our personalities.

The Jester (think Robin Williams)
Motto: You only live once
Core desire: to live in the moment with full enjoyment
Goal: to have a great time and lighten up the world
Greatest fear: being bored or boring others
Strategy: play, make jokes, be funny
Weakness: frivolity, wasting time
Talent: joy
The Jester is also known as: The fool, trickster, joker, practical joker or comedian.

Good (Robin Williams). Bad (The Riddler).

I am not a trickster. I have had a few encounters with the raven (trickster in Northwest native American culture). That is enough.

@LuckyGuy “He must never find out.”

To a degree, yes, I understand. Though my group is tournament players, and we’ve wondered if Jason can tell the difference in the way we shoot with him, vs other more advanced players.

He may not be good enough to get it on that level. And there are a few brain cells missing too. I don’t think he gets it. But if he ever does, we hope that he finds the benefit of friendship offered by those who are secure enough with themselves to lay down their priorities for the potential of another. That’s the hope anyway. Nothing to feel insulted over, hopefully.

Absolutely! I’m not mean-natured and don’t have much in the way of cunning, but I do enjoy bucking the status quo and pointing out ludicrousness that people just accept, often to their detriment. It typically means I’m on the outside looking in (where I’ve been all my life anyway), and since I don’t have Monty Python’s or Charlie Chaplin’s charm, it means I’m not beloved by millions for doing so. That part can kind of suck sometimes. But you might as well try to tell the sun to stop shining—it’s who I am, by nature as well as nurture.

I’m starting a career as a trainer, to which I think I’m well-suited; by its very nature, it upsets the apple cart by introducing new material. I do take care that people feel comfortable with the material, as well as their own abilities, before I start throwing in winks and nudges recognizing that there’s definitely a time and a place.

This all crystallized several years ago, when two different friends who didn’t know each other each gave me a Coyote totem, each saying I reminded them of him. Kinda tickled me. Still does. ;)
