Quick android question?

Asked by Mr_Grimm (412points) June 30th, 2013

I have an HTC t-mobile MyTouch 3G Fender and I am trying to update its firmware. I have tried going on the HTC website, T-Mobiles website, And I’ve tried updating it through the options menu. No such luck. I’m obviously looking in the wrong place. Please help!

Why do you think there is an update for the phone?
Most OTA ( over the air ) updates are automatic. I’ve had several OTA’s for my phone, but only when it was released by the mobile phone provider.
Contact T-Mobile direct with info for your phone.

@Tropical_Willie is right. Updates are automatic. You’re probably running Froyo, right (2.2)? Or maybe even Gingerbread (2.3)? If so, that’s it – unless you want to root and install a custom rom (like Cyanogenmod). But even there, you will likely be limited to the pre-ICS (4.0) world due to low phone specs.

But if you get into that kind of thing, rooting and installing custom roms is a thing people get into. Sometimes it’s to extend the life of an old phone. Other times it’s to get a later build that is not available because the phone will never get it.

I should be running froyo 2.2 but I’m running 1.6 :/ and it sucks because I can’t use Google play. I’m stuck with the market

And I have already used androot and rooted the phone. I can’t update any of the root pro grams because I can’t access Google play
