Do you have any ideas for what to write to my brother and sister who are at camp, but still somewhat know what is going on here?

Asked by AnonymousWoman (6531points) August 13th, 2013

I want to write my 18 year old sister and 15 year old brother letters, but thanks to technology, they already know a lot of what is going on here. What is left to write about?

You could write about you. How you are. Ask how they are. Talk about your life, your family.

Simply add the details of your and your family’s life since the last email or text message. A real letter is wonderful when you are at camp. The actual contents almost don’t matter.

Your pet (s), your garden, the last family dinner…anything. Keep it detailed and specific.Don’t use vague terms like “awesome.”

Tell them the details of your day, what’s going on in the house, any really personal stuff that reminds them of home. A letter from home is supposed to be about home.

Your thoughts and feelings.

You could include a sketch or two of something relevant. It doesn’t matter if you’re not very good at it. Stick figure drawings can work too.

I correspond with some guys in jail…one is my son’s friend and he lived with us for a year during HS. The other is a former student of mine. I say a few words about how things are going with me, then I’ll copy and paste stuff I’ve posted on fb, usually involving stories of the crazy things that happened when my kids were growing up.

I imagine they’ll be happy just to get a hand-written letter, note or greeting card from you letting them know you’re thinking about them and took the time to write. You could enclose it in a “Care Package” (as my parents called it when I went to camp) filled with some different little goodies they can’t get at camp. I remember how excited I was when I got a package from home that I could share with my cabin-mates.
