I read this short story by Ambrose Bierce when I was about eleven or twelve, and it put the idea into my head. Ever since, it’s just sort of been there as an impossible wish.

I was walking my dog and she stopped to sniff a tree. My friend, who was with me, said “She’s reading her pee-mail”.

@downtide It’s very disconcerting when it snows and you can see why your dog is sniffing that spot!

Huh. Turns mantis shrimp was a meme. The wily internet meme, sneaking upon the unsuspecting like a rick roll. Or two girls with one glass between them.

The taste of any lepidopteran. It would really be something to be able to perceive and control pheromone signals consciously. I’ve wanted this sense ever since I read Clare Bell’s People of the Sky years ago.

I would like to have the dog’s sense of contentment. My dog is so happy——all the time. I would like that just for one day.
