Seems to me that people are often ready to judge and belittle music they don’t like or find weird, usually with some half assed reason they believe passes off as justification. Metal makes people kill, rap makes you a womanizing prick, country makes you a conservative jackass….the list goes on, I daresay. I can see why, as music says things, there’s always an idea behind the lyrics. But music doesn’t turn people into things, because if that were true, the world would probably be very different. There are whole cultures behind most types of music, but what I see from most people who judge music and the fans shows very little understanding behind said genres and associated people.
People like to blame things, and they like to judge, relegating problems and emotions to some outer source with no real link. Personally, these are dangerous mindsets that I believe we can do without.
But you are what you are, and the kind of person you are might dictate what kind of music you like maybe, although it certainly does not work the other way around.

If it was, I’d have a huge braided beard, and I’d spend all day and night raiding and burning villages.

@Symbeline I agree with you for the most part but I do have to say depending on what type of music I’m into during any particular week it will affect my mood.

Korean pop? You mean like PSY?
Gangnam Style is one of the best songs ever. I love it.

People making assumptions about you because of the music you listen to is silly.
I love melodic death metal. It surprises people. I can’t count the times I’ve heard “but you don’t look like a metal fan.” What does a metal fan look like then? lol

Listen to what you like, if somebody has a problem with it, tough shit.

No, but it says something about the people who are giving you a hard time. Find some other friends who won’t pick on you. Start with just one and build from there.

How sad that some people make themselves feel superior by dissing others. Ignore such people. As William Shakespeare wrote, “To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.”

Well, I listen to a lot of generes, so I guess that makes me Omni-Man.

I hope not, I prefer peace and quiet to listening to any music.

One of my favourite types of music is often classified as “Folk/Roots” All of my children still love that genre. My daughter Emma Cloney just released her second album of such music. She is in the top 10 of such artists across Canada right now. My musical tastes certainly influenced not only partially characterized who I am but have continued to shape how my three adult children conceive of themselves. We all have eclectic musical taste that include other musical genres. I do confess to being very proud of my daughter’s musical career as a singer/songwriter which she is managing to pursue while she is still a full time Nursing Student at the top of her class. Her husband is amazing in the way he supports and encourages her goals.

@Katniss you got your name from the hunger games, great book right? To be honest with Psy is not the only artist out there in Korean music. To say another think i do not listen to say because someone of this songs dont interest me. I listen to artist that have meaning. If you look up artists like B.A.P and BTS. Those are two groups that talk about things that happen in the world. Unlike the two songs that PSY came out with that became big all over the world. I will agree with you, some of the songs i listen to make be silly but i listen to the to get a smile. But there are other songs out there not are not silly that i enjoy very musch. Thank you for your response on my question :D

That’s an interesting question…...I feel that if you listen to a widespan of different music, you are providing yourself with self-knowledge that some are incapable of achieving. To say that the music you listen to make you who you are can be interpreted in different contexts, however it takes an intellectual mind to appreciate the artform that sustains it than to act on the lyrics i.e. Eminem does an amazing job of expressing this type of inquiry in Lose Yourself and The Way I Am. Music is an artform, be proud that you are able to listen to everything without prejudice….......

@skyhigh Amazing book! All 3 kept me up way past my bedtime. lol

If you like the music, that’s all that matters. I drive me fiancĂ© nuts with a lot of the music I listen to, but he doesn’t judge me. He just questions my sanity. lol

@Dr_Lawrence Beautiful girl with an amazing voice!

No, I don’t think so because the music that we choose to listen totally depends on our mood. With change in mood, our choice of music also changes. It’s nothing but a matter of choice. Only our nature and behavior makes us what we are.
