Do you think Bendrew is going to let Fluther die out on its own?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46812points) September 5th, 2014

Server errors, slow speed….it keeps getting worse and worse. If it isn’t fixed we won’t come here any more and Fluther will die. :( Is that maybe the plan, since they are otherwise occupied?

This is so sad.

Why do people keep coming up with conspiracy theories when we’ve been told by Ben that he wants to keep it alive?

This has been going on for 2 weeks. Usually it’s fixed within a day. Have we heard from them about a possible resolution?

Thing is, I’ve been through this before. It’s exactly how Wis.dm died.

[mod says] Ben looked into the server problem not that long ago after being contacted by @PhiNotPi, and did some work. We are still having some problems and will contact him again as necessary.

He gave us his word that if the site is to be pulled, the collective will be given due notice. It will not be pulled instantly. We will have time to exchange contact information before leaving. I am inclined to trust him.

I realize your concern. The moderators are equally frustrated with the server issues and we try to do look into what we can we please resist scaring users into thinking we are on the brink of doomsday? The mods have been a little quiet about the server errors because we all have a lot on our respective personal issues plate, but we’re not ignoring the problem.

I hope fluther stays afloat, but all things in life are of a transient nature. I’ll be rooting for a few more trail rides before the fluther horse comes up permanently lame. haha
Patience is a virtue, I am willing to navigate the slow scene here, it’s not that bad.

OK. I’m sorry. I trust them too.

You can pull this question if you want.

@Dutchess_III I’m seldom in favour of deleting questions (unless they’re mine, apparently), but I agree – it feels like this was just asked, like three times in a row. We already know it’s not going to happen.

Well, I missed those, I guess.

I would feel better if Bendrew didn’t already have an exit strategy figured out.

I’m pretty sure it will die. You just have to enjoy what you have while you have it.

I have not realized any problems….... Every empire dies to make way for the next, maybe what comes after Fluther will be grander and more luxurious than what can be imagined.

As I said in the other question that asked pretty much the same thing; why in the world would someone continue to pay server fees if they planned on letting to just decline to inaccessibility ? Why not just pull the plug and save some money?

letting it*

Maybe since the people that see ads (not logged in) are getting a cached version of the page where errors ideally don’t happen as often.. Logged in users are pretty much freeloaders. We create content, Google indexes it, people come from google and read what we wrote and they see ads.

FUCKING GREAT.. IT shot out a server error and posted half my comment.

Time to type again. I will type less this time. Turn off Questions for you and Activity for you and see if that helps. I never use them them and them probably beat the shit out of the server.

How it is now Fluther is really close to being unusable.
