US colonist, do you remember a time when “Made in America” was not needed on most items, because most items were made here in America?

Do you recall a time where manufacturers did not have the need to put ”Made in America” on items because most items were produced here in the US? Now it seems manufacturers have to put it on items to let you know it was actually made here as if one would automatically believe the widget was made in China, Korea, Bangladesh, Mexico, etc.
