My phone is in a reboot loop, how to fix?

Asked by NuclearWessels (1188points) September 9th, 2015

Android Galaxy S4 keeps rebooting, I can’t turn on to get to settings menu even. I am able to get to the recovery menu, but hesitant how to proceed. I accept I may have to factory reset my phone.

There is an option of “wipe cache partition” should I try that fist?
What happens after I factory reset, do I need to take it to the store?

What about these other “Apply update” options, will they help me?

“apply update” only works when you have an update.zip to apply. You would have had to download that.

Doing a factory reset might work, if the problem is in your data or apps. So try it, but don’ expect miracles. Specifically if your phone is unable to finish booting, it can be your radio, or your boot image, or something on that level.

Try the reset first. But you may also need to go to the Samsung website and download Kies. That’s their all purpose tool which also lets you load the basic factory firmware.

If you can get to the ‘download’ page (not the recovery page) then all is not lost.

Question: are you rooted?

Thanks, I’ll look into Kies. So wipe cache partition won’t help. No, I’m not rooted.
