What do you think/what do others think when you attach a word?

Asked by msh (4270points) November 7th, 2015 from iPhone

Give a word that you believe defines you.
Now give a word that you believe others would use to describe you.
Are they alike?
Do they differ?
Which is a more honest assessment?
Based upon what?

Am I in one if those motivational workshops? I prefer no labels on me, they’re hard to peel off.

My word: impostor. Their word: confident. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

It’s really interesting that @syz used the word ‘imposter’, I can relate very much. However, I don’t think there is one word to describe me. If I had to pick one it would be ‘complex’. I don’t know what word other people might use. Depends on my relationship with them. My husband said “that’s too hard. There are so many words to describe you”. So perhaps he agrees with me. I’m complex.

Passionate. I would say it of myself and I think other people would say it of me, as well. I think it’s a good thing. Some people also think it’s a good thing, but there are plenty of people who think it’s a bad thing and think I need to tone it down. I say their apathetic, which I think is a bad thing. So, it is what it is.

However, I do think that as I’ve aged, I’ve toned it down. It will never go away completely, and I don’t want it to, but most of the time I choose my battles more carefully now.
