Can someone help me find a specific charity website?

Asked by DrasticDreamer (23996points) November 18th, 2015

I came across a website quite a while ago that is tailored to helping people in your local community. On behalf of someone in need, a person who works for the charity posts a mini profile and what the person in need is in need of. You literally have the ability to look through all of these listings and give to the person, or people, that you choose.

I have no idea if this is too vague, but I would really appreciate it if an awesome Googler might be able to find it for me. I’m actively trying, but having no luck so far.

Kiva has local options.

I add to my account yearly and keep the loaned money maxed out.

That’s really, really similar. But do the people on Kiva actually pay the money back at some point?

Go Fund Me allows people to self publish or have friends publish a solicitation, with a back ground page and a donation goal.

I had a friend get a 30 day eviction because her landlord was moving his kids into the house. She didn’t have first, last, and deposit ready, nor money for moving, so a couple of us started a go fund me for her. Other people have done go fund me campaigns for things like raising money for victims of the Valley Fire in Northern California.

Oh, yeah, @DrasticDreamer.

I’ve only been with Kiva around 2 years and some of my money has been loaned 2–3 times. Every time I have money in my account to loan, I add some so I can make more than one loan.

I’m no Bill Gates, but it’s heartening to know you’re loaning money to people less fortunate than yourself that are conscientious about paying it back.

@ibstubro I think it’s a cool idea, especially because it then lets you know that someone reached a goal.

And I learned about Kiva here, at Fluther.
