US postal service, FedEx or UPS for a career?

Asked by ChaoSS (143points) March 24th, 2017

Greetings all, I’ve been researching positions in all companies and needless to say I feel I’m capable of anything that might come my way (either packing or eventually driving).

With that said I can’t seem to find reliable sources as to which company is “best” for promoting within (without a degree). Whichever company let’s say I’d like to stay with this company long term.

Which one would have given me the most and highest raises? Benefits? Chance of retiring with? And of course which one supports etc… Their employees?

I’ve known two people that were very happy working at Fedex. Been there for 15–20 years.

USPS because of the post office union seems to be a tough nut to crack. As I understand it, the post office is all about seniority, and since they’re trying to downsize, it would be a very difficult gig to get into for any length of time.

UPS, I have heard, is a great place to work but very very tight on discipline and performance. So you would have to be really good to keep a job there.

I would vote against the postal service at this point. They are underfunded, reducing services and using more a nd more part timers. I don’t know enough to recommend one of the other two.

FedEx is based in Memphis, where I’ve lived for the past 25 years. Only positive comments have been made about the company by employees and their spouses. The delivery and store agents I’ve encountered always seem well-trained and happy. That speaks volumes for a company that runs 24\7.
