I am going to say no. Alcohol interferes with your body’s water regulation systems, and causes your body to produce more urine than normal, no matter the amount of alcohol you drink.

I’m just guessing, but probably not, but maybe. You’re body works hard to get that poison (alcohol) out of your system, and so you’re kidneys are flushing that stuff out at a rapid pace. The water/liquid helps the process. Also, alcohol blocks hormones that keep water in your body.

The proof of the alcohol makes some difference, and how much alcohol you drink, but I’d say you need to add some more non-alcohol liquids to stay well hydrated.

A lot of people wake up dehydrated the next morning from a night of drinking, and most people aren’t doing straight shots, they are having mixed drinks or beer. But, a glass of wine, or beer, or one hard alcohol drink, isn’t likely to do much to screw up your hydration, especially if you are eating and drinking nonalcoholic drinks around the same time as well.

It’s not uncommon for people to consume salty snacks while drinking and that adds to the problem. Bars do it so you order more drinks, but even at home, and parties, it’s common to have very salty snacks accompanying alcoholic drinks.

Test it out. If you drink the ¼ ¾ drinks, and wake up parched, then you probably have your answer. If you don’t see a big difference, no hangover, no increased thirst, and your urine doesn’t get much yellower hours late/the next morning, then your water balance probably is ok. Not that you should purposely dehydrate yourself, that can be downright dangerous. All I mean is, if you seem to be well hydrated don’t worry about.

Very limited hydration initially. Then, if we REALLY overdo it, the alcohol continues to dehydrate us overnight, and that is what causes the dreaded ‘morning hangover’.

On the upside, the more you drink….the less you care*
