No. There is an urban legend that, if you eat a poppy seed bagel, it can cause you to fail a urine test for opiates within the next three days. That’s bullshit. It is often used as an excuse by abusers when they fail. LOL. Abusers are idiots.

@Espiritus_Corvus So why don’t you let us know how you really feel!

Not bullshit
But as you say it’s an excuse used over and over. My wife alerted me to this years ago when she was responsible for sending folks for drug tests. I try to avoid them because I’m randomly tested. I do miss lemon poppy seed muffins.

So I’ve heard. But, true or false, why take the chance??

Yes, it is true. It is not an urban legend, despite what @Espiritus_Corvus wrote.

Let me put it this way. It will show up on a drug test. Whether that is enough to get you into trouble or cost you a job is another story.

It was enough for a DOT drug test at a rental car company; to do a retest on one of their employees.

Never heard of this but then I am not a drug abuser/user other than a wee bit of cannabis on occasion. Hmmm… maybe I’ll bake some marijuana poppyseed muffins, sounds delicious. LOL

OK, but I would think bakers would do away with them, or have put notice in front them? Isn’t it a big enough deal?

Coloma's avatar

@flo No, it’s not that big of a deal. A lot of non-drug abusers like Poppyseed muffins and baked goods. To ban them would be like banning alcohol for all the responsible drinkers because of a few alcoholics in the barrel.

It was a rhetorical question.

Yes why take a chance? is right @kritiper

You guys…read @ARE_you_kidding_me‘s post. He has a link proving it’s true.

Yes. Its no secret. If a drug test MAY be in your future, don’t eat poppy seed dressing or poppy seeded breads. There are a few teas that can also cause a false positive.
