Can you make a smoothie and save it for later? Will it lose consistency?

Asked by NuclearWessels (1188points) December 9th, 2017

Would it be possible to make a smoothie in the morning, (or night before?) put it in some kind of travel cup, keep it refrigerated and have it for lunch?

You should keep it in the freezer overnight and then thaw it 30–60 minutes before you plan to drink it

Most mornings I blend a banana, orange juice, blueberries and spinach or kale.

On occasion, when I have to hurry out the door, I put it in the fridge for later. The greens float to the top. It simply needs stirring or shaking to make it right again.

I keep my smoothie in the fridge for later use. The taste is fine and consistent but I’m not sure if potency of the less fresh nutrients remains the same.

In general fruits oxidise pretty quickly and therefore it is much better to drink the smoothie straight after you make it. I suppose some fruits wouldn’t be as bad as others to leave in the fridge. But in general smoothies taste best straight after making them.
