Are you good about holding on to a present until the appropriate date, or do you break down and give it to them then?

My grandson’s 4th birthday is in May. I bought a dinosaur coloring book for him off of Amazon, and I just got it today AND I WANT TO GIVE IT TO HIM NOW!!
I just can’t seem to hang on to presents all year long, waiting for Christmas or whatever. Can you?

Our last chef, I wanted to fire him immediately, on the Monday, but out of the goodness of my heart I gave him til the end of the week…his birthday.

Yes, we start buying Christmas presents in January, spreads out the cost too.

I have tried that. I just can’t resist giving them to the kids early!

No, I can wait until the special day. I bought my gf some “stocking” presents in October, and was fine with them in my closet until Christmas Eve.

@Dutchess_III maybe you should wait until just before the birthday to buy things if you cannot keep yourself from giving the presents early.

Well, that’s what I do! They pretty much get stuff from us all year around.

I am terrible at keeping presents.
So awful, that I had to develop a special trick to deal with it:
I do not buy presents in the first place.

I can wait, but I also sometimes give it early. May is a long time away! I’d be inclined to give it to him. He’ll get other gifts on his birthday day.

I have a present drawer and buy gifts for people throughout the year. No need to give the gifts before their time.

I have no problem waiting for anyone in our family except Mrs Squeeky I always want to give her gift early, I usually do wait but it drives me more crazy than her.

Yes.
Although, come to think of it, it would be cool to have a dinosaur coloring book now, instead of getting one for my birthday.
But, in fact, I have purchased Christmas gifts in advance, put them away in a closet, and then forgot I had them.

I was thinking about gifts I’ve been given, and the ones given to me unexpectedly are always the most fun to get. Also, for the most part, it’s insignificant to me whether I received something for Valentines, my birthday, Christmas, or Chanukah. I barely remember when I got what, except for some very key items, I do remember who gave me what. The gifts that have given me the most joy over time had nothing to do with when it was given to me.

I am not good at holding them and gave up shopping in advance. Now I save and go right before the event, seriously.
