What should or could I have done in this situation?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24468points) October 17th, 2019

In 2012 I was in the hospital, and a mental patient was munching on AA batteries unsupervised. I called for help and their was no staff around. He had the intention of eating everything from the cleaning staffs cart. Should I have let him suffer the consequences of his actions, or looked further for staff or held him down until help arrived?

Looked further for help. What you absolutely should not do is hold him down. Let the staff handle that (and assume any potential liabilities).

look for anyone else that may help, whether cleaning staff or other in the vicinity. However that was in 2012 and no reason now to worry about. In the end you don’t really know what the happened as perhaps someone did spot him later ?
Stop worrying about hings that are out of your control, we can’t always be there for everyone.

If he pulled through that one, he probably did something worse at a later stage. Such cases are never really out of danger.

Should have asked if he had any more to share and if he offered, take them all.
