Does anyone here follow Star Wars stuff?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46812points) December 29th, 2019

Some one said that Yoda didn’t make his first appearance, until Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.
I saw the original in 1977, in the theater, and I could swear he made an appearance then.

So, now I’m researching. It would appear that maybe he’s right, which leaves me scratching my head.
I learned that The original film was later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope.

I’m pretty sure I must have seen Episode V, if it came out in 1980. Am I just conflating the two films?

Yoda appeared first in Empire Strikes Back (episode V) when Luke goes to Dagobah. Remember, he thought the little old green guy was just an annoying distraction until he (and we) realized it was Yoda himself.
A surprise all around!

You’re conflating the two. And yeah, the original movie is, at least now, referred to as ‘A New Hope’ and/or ‘Episode IV’. But in 1977 it was just ‘Star Wars’.

I’ve only seen “The Empire Strikes Back”, when it came out, in the start of the eighties, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that guy in it.
After that I haven’t seen a minute of other Star Wars stuff.

What purpose did 1, 2 and 3 serve? What story did they tell that led up to the original Star Wars, which is now #4?

I thought that on IMDB.com you could look up a character and see the movies it’s in, just like looking up an actor and seeing their roles. But I can’t find that right now.

Oh, you just have to google the question and it will take you where you need to go. I typed “characters in the original Star Wars” and it sent me here

@Dutchess_III What purpose did 1,2 and 3 serve? Hundreds of millions for the producers. Storywise IMO, it didn’t help at all. They were all CRAP. Lol

Episodes I, II and III served to tell the story of Anakin Skywalker’s rise and fall to the dark side (to become Darth Vader), the destruction of the Jedi Order, and the transition of the Galatic Republic into the Empire.

Granted, those movies don’t tell that story particularly well, in my opinion, but the do serve that purpose.

My understanding is that Wookieepedia is the source for all things Star Wars. Check it out there.

Wookieepedia’s a great source, but probably a bit overwelming for someone just looking for some basic info on the movies.
