My computer seems to have no power, but there is power running through it...

Asked by urbanhermit (5points) July 31st, 2007

I installed a pci adapter after installing the drivers, and when i plugged the computer back in after inserting the hardware, pressing the button to power up does nothing at all. there is power in the system.. the light on the mouse comes on when the unit is plugged in, but no sounds or action at all from the cpu.

Sounds like one of your interior cables may be loose. Crack the case and check all those little "picky" cables. They should all be nice and snug... Hope it helps.

Perhaps the PCI card is not inserted in the slot properly. Have you tried removing the card and turning it on again?

Thanks, folks. i tried all of the above, alas, to no avail.

This will be a pain but I would reinstall your original hardware. If that works than you may have faulty hardware.

Another option is to just check and re-seat all your cards and cables as if your setting it up for the first time.

This is my first fluther answer ever. Whoot whoot!!
