I am sorry to see Warren being forced to discontinue her campaign. If I were in Warren’s position, it would be a tough choice. I like Sanders’ progressive politics, but I have doubts as to how qualified he is to be president. Given a choice between Sanders and Biden, I would choose Sanders, but not with great enthusiasm. I would hold off on making an endorsement of either Sanders or Biden.

The whole reason Warren decided to become politically active was to oppose Biden’s bankruptcy bill. Literally, she almost certainly would not have run for any office if Biden had not authored that bill (well technically the lobbyists did).

I think Biden is flirting with senility, early-onset dementia or some other form of cognitive decline. He’s slurring like a stroke patient, and jumbling incoherent word salad at times. I sincerely wish him well, but I think it’s pretty obvious that Trump would wipe the floor with him on the debate stage. Trump is a bully with no shame. Picking on people is among his only talents in life (sadly). Don’t forget how he absolutely wrecked all of the other Republican contenders in the 2016 Republican Primary.

Elizabeth throwing in with such an obviously flawed candidate would really harm her career, and ultimately the values she espouses. Furthermore, Sanders and Warren are aligned on many policy goals. I think she could potentially become the VP, and quite possibly the first woman president if Bernie ever has to step aside (either in 2024 or for health reasons).

I assume that you believe Warren is qualified to be president? I’m just curious what qualifications Warren has that Bernie lacks in your mind?

If she does nothing then she isn’t a team player. And the game is to get Trump out of the White house. So she really doesn’t have much of a choice except to endorse her party’s candidate.

@gorillapaws , Here is an article discussing the attempt to make it seem as if Biden has dementia. I am sorry to see you participating in it.

The problem I have with Sanders is that his blustering style of speech makes me question his leadership ability. He goes off full bore all the time. This is admittedly a subjective reaction, but that is the impression I get. Even so, I prefer Sanders because of his progressive politics.

@LostInParadise I’m not diagnosing him with any PARTICULAR disorder (I have never met the guy and I certainly lack the medical expertise to do so), however, I don’t think anyone can say with a straight face that there isn’t anything going on neurologically—unless they’ve not seen the clips.

If you look at the clips from 4–8 years ago he was witty, snappy. Biden has said dumb things and made gaffes for decades, that’s not the point. The point is that he sounds very different now than he did then.

Mixing up Vermont and New Hampshire, and Super Tuesday vs. Super Thursday are the kind of mental goofs that young, healthy people make all of the time. That’s a slip-of-the-tongue kind of error and we expect if from people with cameras on them constantly, especially if they’re running around all day campaigning and are fatigued physically and mentally.

Also he makes several ill-advised statements like calling a woman at a townhall a lying dog-faced pony soldier. He called a guy fat and challenged him to do pushups or something like that. He has emphatically told voters to vote for other candidates, etc. Even those gaffes are more-or-less consistent with his previous behavior for decades (perhaps a bit more erratic and less polished).

However there are other mental breakdowns caught on camera that come across in a different way. The recent Declaration of Independence flub, came out slurred and confused, not like someone simply misspoke. His references to Margaret Thatcher and Deng Xiaoping make it seem like he’s having issues with memory and time. Biden’s bizarre narrative about kids playing with his leg hair, roaches, and kids sitting on his lap was barely coherent. His record player answer and his inability to correctly name his website in the debates was concerning—he sounded truly impaired. Can you watch this compilation of clips and honestly say that you don’t think he’s having issues with his cognition?

I wasn’t particularly a Warren fan but if anyone is interested, she did the opening skit on SNL last night (3/7/2020).
