Why not ask corona-positive people in Tulsa be the attendants and security personnel for Trump's rally?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33166points) June 18th, 2020

Trump says that corona is dissipating, and that he wants a full arena and boisterous rally of republican suicide seekers supporters.

So why not have people that have tested positive for Corona be there as security, ushers, and support personnel?

Since the republicans won’t, in general, be wearing masks, and since they think the virus is winding down anyway, why wouldn’t they be in favor of having infected people be there?

Or do I smell hypocrisy in the air?

“I think if protesters are immune to the corona, maybe Trump supporters are too,” one Trump supporter said.

Any venue that opens up anywhere will have temperature checks and a few basic questions. This has never been a problem where it has been done.

They sure don’t check at Walmart or protests,

@Yellowdog fascinating answer, but not responsive.

Jacksonville will have 50,000 people for the RNC. 19,000 in the the convention center ! All you need is couple dozen asymptomatic attendees to give some of the19,000 COVID-19 and contact with the remaining 31,000 for a huge jump in cases.

Yellowdog's avatar

Might as well ask, why wouldn’t they be in favor of having Joe Biden speak there,

The question makes no sense.

I think the venues will require masks.

I saw something on TV today that a venue in Oklahoma might require masks.

Trump will be able to shrug and say if he had it his way no masks, but he won’t overrule the state or venue or whichever is putting in the rule.

I’m not betting on any of it, but it will be interesting to see how it rolls out. If they have Trump 2020 masks, bandanas, and face shields, then we know he had lead time.

I already was wondering if there was going to be some sort of plexiglass separating him from the audience.

Should we purposely infect them? NO! It just infects more of the population and puts everyone at risk.

Trump will NEVER wear a mask in public !

Because it would be criminally negligent behavior, a punishable crime.

Are they filling every seat in Oklahoma? Or, is it only 50% full? Even at 50%, since he gets people chanting and yelling it’s more dangerous than just sitting there calmly.

@Tropical_Willie I don’t think anyone expects Trump to wear a mask, the question I think is about the audience. Trump up on a stage very far from the audience isn’t the big risk, it’s the audience being near each other.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie People have been in line since Monday so I expect a huge crowd.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL I’ve seen on TV people camping out, but I still wasn’t sure if the venue is allowing every seat to be filled or if there is spacing? I don’t think it will matter much, because it’s still not far enough apart. Plus, using bathrooms at the venue, etc.

@JLeslie Two attorneys are trying to get the rally cancelled but in OK, I’m skeptical that will work.
I did read that Trump said elderly or those at higher risk shouldnt come. Other than that I havent heard of extensive precautions and in interviews many of the people in line arent wearing masks and dont seem concerned about rising numbers.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL I agree that I doubt it will be cancelled, and the people online seem to not be concerned. I don’t think there is a lot of mask wearing in Oklahoma anyway, so they feel comfortable not wearing masks.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie Sure, population density is far less than even St Louis, MO or other areas.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL Yes, of course.

They are going to have masks available for attendees but no one will be required to put one on. With trump saying they aren’t necessary, I bet you don’t see one mask on one face on any of the 19,000 attendees!!!

I don’t have much sympathy for someone who goes to this rally despite the warnings and the situation.

The mayor of Tulsa has declared a civil emergency and set a curfew ahead of President Donald Trump’s first rally since the coronavirus pandemic began. The mayor warned that organized groups involved in “destructive and violent behavior in other states” are planning to create unrest in Tulsa for Trump’s rally.
....
There have been more than a million ticket requests for the event on Saturday night, according to Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager.

A million suicidal people all going to Tulsa. Cool. Just like going to Waco by the Branch Davidians.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL I couldn’t get your article to open. Do you mean a curfew to prevent the rally? Or, it’s a curfew to prevent unrest at the rally?

You can’t tell what the ticket requests really mean I don’t think. I’m sure thousands of Trump supporters are willing and want to go to the rally, but probably Trump haters are trying to get tickets also. Not to create a stir, but to have empty seats.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie Curfew to prevent destructive and violent behavior.

Oh, I’m not sure I even believe that count, I just hadn’t heard a number until I saw that quote.

Oklahoma is a Stand Your Ground state, so we’ll see who shows up and how it’s handled.

JLeslie's avatar

I really hope there aren’t any unruly people. I think people can protest outside before the rally.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, there will be trouble. Of that I have absolutely no doubt.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Nothing to do with the rally; however, Mark Lamb who is a sheriff in Arizona & a trump supporter refused to enforce the lock down now has covid19. Now he’s saying that it’s just part of his job. I can’t fathom being so blind that I didn’t care for my own well being nor the well being of my family!!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

The danger isn’t for healthy, young individuals. It’s the fear of taking it back to older, more frail individuals. The vast majority of people will get it and recover just fine. That’s probably why he’s not too worried about it.

LadyMarissa's avatar

According to today’s news, 6 campaign staffers helping with the rally have tested positive for the virus. @elbanditoroso, trump must have liked your idea!!!
