Will a ballot be mailed to me for voting? Or do I have to get it myself?

Asked by Laura8888 (264points) August 22nd, 2020

I am confused about the new way of voting through the mail. Will they just send me the ballot even if I don’t ask for it? Who do I call and where do I go to get a ballot? Not satisfied with answers I got on Google. Thanks, guys.

Depends on where you live. If you’re in the U.S., check your state or county website.

^^Yeah, what she said. I have already gotten a ballot request form if I choose to do absentee voting. Or I can plan on going to the polls in person. There were some areas that were blanket mailing ballots to everyone. It all depends on where you live.

Call your County Registrar of Voters. State Law governs and Counties administer voting, so it differs depending on where you live.

Voting by mail isn’t new.
Call your court house.

Here if you cast an absentee ballot, from then on out they are mailed to you automatically-no request necessary. You can fill out the ballot at your leisure. Study and research the issues as you fill it out, then either mail it in or walk it to the local voting booth. Simple, and the governor has instituted the process as routine state wide.

@stanleybmanly, please mention where “here” is, for context.

It does vary from state to state and you need to get up to date info for this election because of the pandemic. Either your state or county board of electors or The League of Women Voters web siste should have the best information.

@Jeruba Here is San Francisco. And the wife has been receiving her ballot for better than 20 years. She walks it to the corner (our polling place) . Her ballot comes with the voting pamphlet. I too receive the pamphlets, but walk to the corner to vote. This will be my first year filling out an absentee ballot.

If you are a registered voter, why not request one from you registrar if you’d rather not vote in person? Then there is no guess work. YOU WILL GET THE BALLOT.
