Who are attacking Asian-Americans lately and why?

Who are doing it, and why? People who blame the pandemic on any and all Asians.

My first guess would be racism.

Saying “racism” is glib and simplistic.

Part of it is that the coronavirus appears to have come from China, and most Americans are so stupid they don’t know the difference between a Chinese person, A Korean, a Japanese person, and so on. So they’re all lumped together.

Another part is that Asians (as a group, not everyone obviously) have a reputation for being intelligent and hard workers. Focused. And the uneducated class in the US sees smart Asians making good money as a result of their efforts, and are jealous – because the uneducated class doesn’t want to put the effort in.

Now- not all Asians are smart and hard working. There are plenty of Asian street gangs and drug rings and mobsters as well.

Fairly broad question. Here in the Bay Area, a lot of the attackers have been young black men, so I’m hesitant to blame it all on “Trump” (as some have done in articles I’ve read). I think some of it has to do with the pandemic, but some of it has to do with the fact that there are long-standing tensions between the black and Asian communities in some cities here. In other cases, Asians may not be specifically targeted for their race and these criminals just go for anyone they think they can carjack or assault, and there are a lot of Asians in the Bay Area so they will end up being victims. I don’t have a clear answer.

Because idiots think they are the ones responsible for the pandemic ,which makes as much sense as blaming the gas station attendant for the high price of gas.

@SQUEEKY2 the gasoline price increase is because Biden has a knob under his desk in the Oval Office that, when he twists it makes gas prices go up !

It’s the people who were raised to be filled with blind hate, insecurity and ignorance. In this case they think the “Asians” are somehow responsible for Covid and they’re going to get even with them.

I figure it’s multifaceted.

A lot of the time it’s older people who are attacked and I bet some of it is probably gang initiation. Asian attacks are overlooked just like when Blacks or Latin Americans are attacked. Many older Asians suffered horrific circumstances in their youth and were taught they have no voice and to be glad they are alive, keep their heads down. The Vietnamese, Chinese, Koreans, grew up in war or with a solid knowledge of the racism that existed in America historically and often experienced some themselves.

Add in the pandemic and Trump making China a target to blame and we have idiots in our country who think Asian-Americans are somehow less American or not American.

I wrote on another Q that several months ago someone wrote on a restaurant review group that he won’t eat in Chinese restaurants now, he doesn’t want to give them money. After that Q I bought Chinese take-out that weekend.
