Do you ever scream when you're driving alone in the car?

Asked by Jeruba (55833points) May 1st, 2021

(Not at the other drivers. At whatever’s going on with you.)

Does it help?

Do you think many people do that?

Surely I must have but I don’t recall a specific instance. But I do occasionally find myself talking loudly to no one when trying to form a description or prepare for a presentation.
Back when I needed it, I would practice a foreign language. Sometimes, I would have a news station on and (try to) translate it into another language as if I were talking to someone else.

Wait! I do recall a few times screamed things like: “You lying piece of excrement…” when I heard a certain individual’s voice on the radio. It didn’t help much. Voting did.

I probably have but I don’t remember it. Here’s a song for you about it though:

I have never. I will sing loudly along with the radio, and sometimes I will yell at another driver (with the windows up so I’m not heard).

I haven’t screamed in the car by myself, but there is certainly nothing wrong with it. It’s a good mechanism for releasing pent up anger. Screaming is a tool. It may not be the best tool to use for long term, but there’s no harm in using it a few times here and there.

No. But I sing.

I’m too self conscious to scream in public. Last time I screamed was in a sound prooffed room in the music class in grade 9. I do however howl with the wolves, at night, in Jasper National park in Canada.

I don’t, nor ever have, with or without someone else in the vehicle. I have no idea if others do this; it’s never been witnessed.

I did go parasailing one time, and once up in the air, it felt safe to yell out a string of unpardonable superlatives that my younger generation down in the boat would not hear. It released some of the pressure of the stress of the situation, while appalling to hear the words coming out of my mouth.

Well, since you excluded ‘at other drivers’, my answer is:

I never do, because I don’t want to distract myself, so I can pay full attention to the traffic.

But I very often shout aloud when I see other drivers do something wrong. It’s never at them personally, meaning I never leave the car to argue with them. But I do call them “assholes” or “imbeciles” for doing – or not doing – something that should be done differently than the way they are (not) doing it.

Luckily it’s a very rare case for me to get aroused about other drivers’ behavior, since most of the time I manage to control myself and utter something like “Oh, just let them be, they simply can’t act other than that, ‘cause they’re Macedonians.”

While driving my Suzuki Swift I mostly sing some nice songs of the 70’s. Or think about a way to bypass a problem, or to shorten my way to the destination. Or think about what I’m going to do when the world ends and I’m the only survivor there. How, for Heaven’s sake, am I going to be able to become aroused while driving, when there will be no one around to make some stupid things in the street? Or how an I going to bypass a problem or shorten my way to the destination, when there won’t be anyone there to cause a problem or to block my way? See, those are real problems whose solution has to be figured out, and that’s why I hope that the world never ends. Or if it ends, then please not for every one, I need at least a couple other people to make my ride interesting.
