Do you believe the DOJ will indict Trump on sedition charges?

Asked by HP (6425points) June 10th, 2022 from iPhone

And would that put an end to him?

I believe they should, and that he should be convicted.

I don’t have a “belief” about what will happen – that would seem out of place to me, in these days of dubious goings on. So I am waiting to see what actually happens.

I hope so, but I doubt it.

No.

The DOJ is Doubtful On Justice, and Defers to Obvious Jerks.

JLeslie's avatar

Nope. I’d love to be wrong.

Can he be charged with dereliction of duty (is that just a military thing?) or inciting a riot?

God I hope so!!!

I don’t think so out of fear of the repercussions

Unfortunately, I don’t see any end to Trump’s mischief making during the first half of this century, whatever happens. Even if he dies, an orange miasma will lie over the country for a long time to come.

I think they should, but they won’t.

@flutherother Pretty much agree with you. Sad but true, I fear.

I think Ron De Santis will carry on his legacy. And the legions of flying monkeys Trump has unleashed.

@janbb DeSantis certainly has the talent and adoration to do it. I figure the only way to counter DeSantis is for Republicans at large to denounce any of the dog whistle horribleness DeSantis employs, which is right from the rule book of Trump and many other Republican politicians before him. That seems unlikely for a while, but we can hope.

Somehow, the religious rights base needs to become less important to the Republican Party or we are doomed to politicians catering to it. DeSantis sometimes hardly does anything and gets media attention for it and the media creates a story when almost nothing is there.

Thank goodness the media barely paid attention to Florida regarding the whole Supreme Court abortion thing.

Trump and Fox News set it up so that any attention from the real news is a signal to Republicans that it’s some sort of attack.

Hope he gets charged for something that diables his ability to get into Politics ever again.
If he does get charged watch as his whole Empire tumbles into ruin.
All his backers will back out and distance themseves from him and his family and friends.

@Inspired_2write You’re right. Jared and Ivanka are already distancing themselves.

@JLeslie it is unfortunate but true, but there is nothing legally that can prevent Trump from being duly elected were he serving a life sentence in a grey rock Federal prison. The people who founded this place neglected to include any such restrictions, for the simple understanding that the very concept of the country hung on the basic good sense of its population. And for the shockingly oversized percentage of our population who have not only abandoned their common sense, but actually advertise their stupidity with their “I AM A HOPELESS MORON” red hats, common sense is as alien a concept as Chinese trigonometry. These dullards are the living proof that Trump actually can (just as he said) grab the woman of his choice by the crotch without consequence. I ask again, what’s the point to democracy when the people are stupid?

JLeslie's avatar

@HP That is always a problem with democracies. There can be mob rule by idiots. There are some safety measures. You could argue the electoral college is a safety measure, even though I’ve argued for 40 years I think we should have a direct vote. Impeachment is a safety measure. That doesn’t seem to work very well. Maybe the president can be deemed unfit?

I don’t see Trump running for president again, but I’ve been wrong before.

As a side note, Ivanka looked terrible to me in the clip I saw for the hearing. Either she is on the involuntary stress diet or on some sort of stupid make yourself too thin diet, but anyway, I’ve seen her look much better. Naive of me I’m sure, but I actually think she realizes how dangerous some of the games are that the Republican Party plays. Her children are Jewish! It just doesn’t matter enough for her to actually go against the family. It’s like a mafia.

How bout we outlaw the republican party! Send all conservatives to reorientation camps.
What can go wrong then? After all, they are stupid morons!
And racist. And white supremacists. And terrorists! Take away their children.
And the biggest existential threat to our democracy!
We can call them nazis!

Anyone who believes they can hook themselves to a toad like Trump and come out with their reputation and self respect intact is in for the exact ruin and disappointment as the fools who have tried before them. Just watch and see.
