Have you ever done something really stupid by accident?

Asked by RayaHope (7448points) September 6th, 2022

I’m never eating anything a friend gives me again. At least I hope that’s what it was. I hate when something bad happens and you don’t even know why.

Yes.

But also on purpose.

Because stupid is always more fun when you plan for it.

My GF at the time was slapping my hand, and I said that it was hurting. She said that It wasn’t hurting her. I responded with because she has more “padding”.

I also was at a baseball game and I turned my head to look at something and broke my two front adult teeth. From not a baseball, but the metal beam in the bleachers.

RayaHope's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 Ouch! Did you get your teeth fixed?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope The same day I got veneers, years later I got a crown.

What is the context of this question?

Ok, so I read the thread in General, and unless there’s something you haven’t told us, I think your detail is a bit extreme. You say your friend is really close to you and you guys often share stuff with each other without problem. Could it be just a one-off accident that no one wanted to happen? Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone gets into unexpected trouble from time to time. It’s just life. Have you talked to your friend? Maybe she is also confused and feeling guilty right now. Giving you the toxic gum could be “something really stupid by accident” from your friend’s perspective, just like how you ate the gum and became sick.

Maybe next time instead of not taking anything she gives you, ask her where she gets her stuff and decide whether it’s safe to eat. That would be a more balanced approach.

Oh, the longer you live the better your odds get. Fallen down the stairs twice. Once because I wore socks and was trying to place a picture perch above the stairs and I was at the edge of the step and my foot slipped in the sock and sent me falling right on my tailbone a few steps.

Another time I was carrying down some Christmas decorations in a large bin and thought I hit the last step and I was wrong. I was 1 step short so I landed on both knees but the first one to hit the ground took the hardest hit. My knee was sore and swollen for days.

Another is using coconut oil for healthy teeth and gums. It does work great, but horrible for crowns or bridges to stay glued. I still occasionally do it if I get a gum infection but only till it’s gone.
And those are just the more recent ones in the last few years that I remember at this moment.
Oh, going to a family gathering on my in-laws side and for New Years and getting covid from one of the family idiot who had a sick kid at home an swore it wasn’t covid.

The other night I got so drunk I walked to a bridge on the bike trail at like 6am and had a mental breakdown. I had wished it was higher. I went home and passed out.

How can something bad happen to OUR RayaHope?

If I could I would give you all my strength of strengths.

I wouldn’t count trusting snacks from a friend as “really stupid”, unless you knew your friend was unreliable. It sounds like she accidentally shared something she didn’t know was drugged.

Seems like, now that it’s over, it was not a bad way to find out you’re not into that drug, and that it’s good to be more careful about eating things from others (not to mention drinks…). Lesson survived.

As for me, I’ve certainly done stupid things . . . and I’m not sure I remember any that I can blame any of them on being an accident, though I think I’ve tried using that excuse to reduce blame. Plenty of bad judgement calls, though.

In this particular situation, I do NOT see you as doing something stupid as you had NO reason to not trust her at the time it was happening!!! This is part of growing up & becoming an adult. Learn from this experience & just don’t be quite so trusting with her next time!!!

You’re NOT being stupid as long as you’re LEARNING from your mistakes!!! Our BEST life lessons come from our DUMBEST actions!!! The stupidest thing that I ever did in my life lead me straight to the BEST thing that ever happened to me…so, I’m NO longer sorry for doing the stupid thing!!!

In your case, learn to listen to what people are actually saying to you. When someone says “this will make you feel better”, it usually means that drugs or alcohol are involved, so take it from them & politely say “thank you” & then toss it in the first trash can that you find!!! Better to throw away a good piece of candy than get tricked into being high!!! IF you really want to eat that candy, throw away what was handed to you & go to the store where you can BUY your own that’s still in the sealed wrapper & you know is safe!!! The reality of this situation is that it could have been MUCH worse. You could have been on a date, with no one around but the person who drugged you trying to take advantage of you with NO place to escape to. At least this was a friend who probably meant NO harm. You may have been messed up, but you were able to make it home to safety until you could get your head straightened back up!!! The fact that you didn’t enjoy your first experience will probably deter you from experimenting for fun!!! You’ll be starting college soon & this lesson could be a good one because you’ll have a better idea on what to be prepared to recognize.

Just be MORE careful from here on out!!! When you go to a party, keep your drink in your hand at ALL times!!! Not very convenient but you will know that NOBODY spiked your drink as long as you have it in your hand & know who was near it!!! I learned that one the hard way after having 2 nights that I couldn’t remember a damn thing the next day & I mean remember NOTHING!!!

To all of you, I am so glad that you support me in this and all the great advice is much appreciated AND I will take this to heart. I will be much more careful in the future and I don’t think she meant any harm. I don’t know why ANYONE would want to feel that way on purpose all messed up and things just don’t seem real. creepy and out of touch. Do people walk around like that all the time? I don’t see the appeal to it so scary..yuck!

@RayaHope For those who take drugs, it is about escaping the world. I’m with you. I tried it back in High School eons ago to see what was the big deal. I hated the lack of control. I even hate medications that make me very sleepy. Like you, I don’t get it.

I made spaghetti with cheese. I boiled the pasta, and drained. Then added shredded cheese and put the pot in the oven at 350 degrees Celsius. It smelled ok so I grabbed the pot from the oven…. Without oven mitts. It took a week to heal.

Mimishu1995's avatar

@RayaHope to some people that’s a great feeling. We can’t get it but it’s what they love. Just like how people like the taste of wine while I’m completely put off by it. Just do what you think is right.

RayaHope's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 I’m not sure what this has to do with drugs…unless you were on them and that made you do that? 350c is 662f that was a HOT oven!
@Pandora I’m glad you see and know what I mean.
@Mimishu1995 All I know is I’m never doing that again, I like to be in control of myself.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@RayaHope RDG was telling you something stupid he has done & I doubt he’s thinking of drugs!!!

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope Oh. It was 350 farenheight. I was prescribed a controlled substance (Narcotic I believe). I didn’t feel hot or cold well. Also the perception of time was off. I’m off of that particular pill now.

There is not enough space on the site for me to write all of it down.
Stupid by accident.
Stupid on purpose.
Stupid because it looked fun.
Stupid to prove a point.
Stupid is as stupid does

@RedDeerGuy1 I’m glad you are okay now :) @LadyMarissa I see, I guess I’m a little focused on drugs right now. I may not be totally over it yet.

Constantly. The most recent event I can think of was cutting my internet connection while trimming the hedges… I had to go nearly a week using my throttled phone data.

We have all had accidents and made mistakes.

^ I feel so dumb for being so blind. I never would have thought this kinda thing would happen. I thought I was more careful than that :(

I became born without any forethought or planning whatsoever. A completely reckless act considering how dangerous the world is.

Diana Krall!

Well if you ever need a new screen name it could righteously be ‘Forever in Good Taste.’
