Are cross dressers included in the LGBTQ family?

Asked by filmfann (52233points) December 21st, 2022

Larry Goodwin, the self-described Sissy of Wyoming, recently died. He was heterosexual. He had a wife and kids. He often said he was not gay, or a transsexual. He just liked to wear women’s clothing.
He spoke publicly about it.
How would he fit into the LGBTQ alphabet?

Being LGBTQ+ is a condition one is born with. Cross dressing is a choice. I don’t see it in the mix.

The LGBTQIA spectrum is not a label but rather a self identification in which one may own their orientation.

Here’s what I want to know…why are the letters in random order? Shouldn’t it be the BGLQT?

^Those of us in the mix wonder the same thing.

@Hawaii_Jake – I’m so glad. Because DAMN I want to sort those letters. It’s like when I open a package of skittles from the office vending machine. First thing, before I eat any of them, they all go into little sorted piles. And then I eat the ones from the piles that have more first to get the piles to all the same size…and then it’s round robin from there.

I might have a touch of the OCD.

^^ God I thought only I did stuff like that!

No. If they did, so would people who wear light jackets (unzipped), shorts, Birkenstocks, and no hat (!) in the dead of winter.

@Entropy & @RayaHope LOL I do the same thing with m&ms.

@Entropy They are in the order in which orientations were added. When PFLAG was created almost 50 years ago, it was “Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays” (LG). And then Bi people were added (LGB), and a few years later Trans people (LGBT).

The community at large (mostly from younger people) took ownership of the word “Queer” (LGBTQ). And then some people said “don’t forget us intersex people” and some said “I am actually Asexual” (LGBTQIA). And, we have not yet done so in this thread, but some groups add a + to make sure no one is excluded.

@zenvelo I added the + in my first answer above. And thank you for that information. I’ve never known why the letters are in the order they are.

I guess it would depend on how he identified. If he says he identified as part of the LGBTQ+ family, who are you to disagree?

@seawulf575 You obviously didn’t bother to read the OP.
