Are bugs starting to come out where you live?

Spring must be coming. Oh I hate when the ants start, I’ll have to make my secret ant killing stuff.

The tiny black ants made their appearance here in Tacoma last week.

Saw a spider on my ceiling a couple days ago. I pulverized him! I hate spiders.

No see-ums that love my office have started the biting season again.

Saw a few bees a couple of days ago. They must think it’s spring. Not quite yet buzzers.

Flying insects come out all winter whenever the temperature hits 40 degrees.

I’m in Maryland, and I haven’t seen anything yet. Then again, it’s not like I’ve looked. We’ve only had a few warm days though before it got cold again. It’s been colder this past month than it was most of winter, I’d say.

Yup. It’s spring. We have bugs all year where I live, but as it gets hotter outside they come out more. So far, I haven’t seen any in my house, but I went to get a mammogram two days ago and the tech slammed a bug to its death right in front of me.

I haven’t noticed any mosquitoes yet, but they ae controlled pretty well here, so maybe they recently sprayed.

They were about 3 weeks ago. The 32” of snow at my house has stopped them for now.

^^That’s a lot of snow! Must be Cali.

^^ Nope. Typical New England nor’easter

Two of my cats had a tick in the past few weeks. This is early for it.

I live in the southeast where we’ve been having a WONDERFUL “false spring”!!! Since mid December we’ve had a lot of days where we had highs in the 70s to mid 80s. I started having problems with ants back in mid December when we were in our first warm snap. I started treating the area because I can’t stand ants!!! A week later we had a high of 9 & the ants disappeared until another week later when we got back up into the 70s. Then I went through weeks of some there one day & none the next. I don’t like using chemical sprays to get rid of them & I have a natural remedy that usually works well. This year about the time I think it’s working, they suddenly show back up & with no new treatment, they suddenly disappear. I’m not used to having battle ants until the dogwood tree in my front yard blooms in April or possibly May, so December was a real shocker!!!

We have a “new” pink dogwood tree we planted last year, It’s in our front yard too. I hope it grows well this year. (fingers crossed) I mix 1 part borax with 3 parts sugar and add a little red food coloring, works great for ants.

I hope you have better luck with your dogwoods than I have had. I’ve planted 2, and they have both died.

My dogwood is over 25 years old & flourishing. It’s produces a white flower…don’t know if that matters.

@Dig_Dug Your mixture works wonderfully except that the Borax will kill children & pets if they happen to get into it. I babysit a lot & I’ve had cats most of my adult life, so I shy away from that one. I wipe my countertops down with white vinegar. That doesn’t kill the ants, but it will confuse their radar so they leave & don’t come back. I don’t want to kill them…I just want them to go away!!! I will occasionally see them marching across the bricks of my home. I use a spray bottle of vinegar & spray their path. They become disoriented & forget to where they were marching. Every so often, I spray around my door jams or window sills just in case one decides to sneak in that way. That has been claimed to discourage spiders as well, but I can’t swear it has decreased my spider population in the summer!!! I can buy white vinegar really, really cheap at my local dollar store, so I try to keep some handy. Also works well as a hair rinse

Oh @LadyMarissa I put that in small plastic tupper wear like containers and drill a small hole in it for the ants to get in. I have two cats also and I know it would hurt them if they got into in so I am careful. In only one or two days the ants are gone for good!
