Did you see that George Santos will run again in the next election?

Asked by chyna (51310points) April 18th, 2023 from iPhone

George Santos, worlds biggest and worst liar is running for reelection as a representative in New York. Will the Republican Party try to run another person or will Santos running be a shoe-in for any democratic candidate running against him?
Or, will his constituents vote him back in? What do you think?

If his constituents knew what he was like before they voted him in the first time, there is no reason to think they won’t do it again. They are just that stupid.

I know all the lying he did, but what I don’t know is if he is one of the far right Republicans? Is he? Is he a guns for everyone, hate LGBT and Jewish people, keep immigrants out, make abortion completely illegal, Republican? If so, I think there will be money and influence keeping him safe.

I think there will be Republicans wishing someone would challenge him, but multi-millions are spent by billionaire radical religious zealots, many call them Dominionists, to keep radical religious zealouts in office.

I think it’s 50/50 chance. I don’t have a good guess.

Was this one of the places Democrats hoped the looney tune Republican would win the primary? Dangerous game.

I think any thinking person – which seems not to be most Republicans – would have brought him up on ethics charges already. It is insane what is going on.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Doesn’t matter if they’re Democrat or Republican. If they’re a documented liar they don’t deserve to hold any government office.

JLeslie's avatar

I think when some of the big lies came to light he was already the nominee, and later some other big lies were after the vote.

A new primary gives Republicans a chance to choose another candidate.

janbb's avatar

@JLeslie Yes, But in normal times he would be investigated by the House Ethics Committee and likely would have been forced to resign.

^^ really sad that politics are so dirty that we use the term ‘normal times’ to refer to when they weren’t quite as bad

JLeslie's avatar

@janbb Forced to resign. Seems like if they are not actually ousted, they can just decide not to resign. Maybe I don’t know how that works. I haven’t always agreed with the times some of our politicians resigned or dropped out of a race because of pressure from others in congress or the media. This guys lying does matter to me, but plenty of people just want the Republican majority in the House.

In my opinion the Democrats and media dropped the ball in looking into the candidates during the primary and releasing information then.

If the voters re elect him it will show what a cult the Republican party has become.

chyna's avatar

@JLeslie Maybe the dems should have looked further into Santos, but I feel the ultimate ball droppers were the republicans. They had no idea who they were supporting and voting for. It’s like, who cares who he is! He’s a republican! Vote for him so a democrat can’t get the office.
Worse case scenario: I vote for a democrat ONLY because he is a democrat and don’t even do a google search. I find out later that he sexually assaults children and there are articles on google about it. I can’t blame the other party for my lack of research. Yes, they should research him too, but ultimately it’s my own fault for not researching and voting for him, IMHO.

@chyna Absolutely! Well said. Blaming someone else for your own bad behavior is something we teach our children not to do from earliest days.

I hadn’t heard it as I’m avoiding ALL politics right now, so I did a crash reading thingy. I think it was NPR that said it appears that the rep party won’t be supporting him & his fundraising is going down hill as of now. Still, it makes me nervous that he might get reelected simply because of the party he hung his hat on…NOT for his values!!!

chyna's avatar

@JLeslie Also in your first post you ask what he stands for. I can’t figure that out. He lies and flips so much, I don’t really think he stands for anything.
And I would be saying this no matter what party he is.

mazingerz88's avatar

@chyna He stands for grifting. Whatever it takes to make things happen for him. Lie to his teeth. Like trump, he knows there are enough of either angry deplorable people
or naive stupid
people out there who could and would vote into office someone like him. He will never stop until enough votes against him prevail. Wait, he will never stop even if he loses. Like trump. There will always be human scum in the face of the earth. Empowered by either angry deplorable people or stupid naive ones.

@chyna For the primaries I completely agree we should research our own so we vote for the person who most represents what we care about, but once it is down to one, who are you going to vote for? A lying Democrat or the Republican? We can’t give Republicans power now. A lot of Republicans feel that way about Democrats.

I do blame Democrats for being asleep at the switch, and for sometimes promoting bad Republican candidates.

chyna's avatar

I’m still not sure how the Democrats are to be blamed for the Republican choices.

JLeslie's avatar

I don’t really blame the Democrats. It’s more I’m disappointed when it comes to how they play politics. I don’t like the meanness in politics, I don’t want to play dirty, but doing a little research into candidates to see if there is something really outrageous is a reasonable strategy. Even Trump said many many years ago the Republicans are better at strategizing and running.

chyna's avatar

I agree. I hate dirty politics too.
