Where do DJs get their music?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33159points) April 26th, 2023

Are they doing downloads or streams and capturing them? Are they ripping from CDs and digitizing?

Do they specialize? Does one DJ concentrate on oldies, maybe another on rap or hip hop, and another on jazz or dance music?

Does the DJ manage the licensing of music? Meaning – do they pay the copyright or performance fees? Or does the person who hired the DJ pay those directly?

The radio stations where the music is played is on the music manufacturer’s mailing list.

Are you talking about DJs on the radio or those who work parties and clubs?

While they can use streaming services to DL content, there are other services that specialize in this area.
Beatport, Beatsource, Tidal and SoundCloud Go are a few that specialize.
There isn’t always the depth of offering in some of these and old school CD’s and turntables are still used.
