Was the rejection of Jim Jordan as House Speaker a sign that some Republicans in the House are rejecting the MAGA movement?

As I understand it, it’s not anti-MAGA per se – the people who are abandoning Jordan are the ones up for reelection in districts where Biden won in 2020, and are therefor in most danger of losing their seats next year.

In other words, they are moving leftwards in a craven effort to be reelected, as opposed to following their ideology.

What’s going to happen is that eventually some republican is going to realize that she/he needs democratic help.

A pundit on NPR was just saying that some Republicans don’t like it when MAGA tactics of intimidation are turned on them and thus they are rejecting Jim Jordan and his strong arm ways. One said that he would never vote for Jordan unless Jordan repudiated the lie that the 2020 election was stolen and Jordan repeated it today. I don’t understand how he or McCarthy have the power to keep calling floor votes after being rejected a few times.

^^Could there be any Republican out there that the Dems might agree on supporting for the speakership?

And this just in. House rejected Jordan as a nominee.

@mazingerz88 Yes, there are. Jamie Raskin (D) mentioned three or four.

Do you mean Gym Jordan?

@mazingerz88 that’s not the point. Republicans think it is complete heresy to cooperate on anything with democrats. So whether there are good people or not is immaterial; ideological purity is the key, even at the expense of the country.

What a bunch of idiots.

No. MAGA is here to stay.

Less than half of the GOP in Iowa are MAGA followers . . .

. . . therefore the GOP maybe doomed !

Caravanfan's avatar

@Tropical_Willie They may say that but they’ll still vote for Trump when he gets the nomination.

We will see @Caravanfan . . . and RFK Jr may suck out more Trump voters than Biden.

What I heard initially is what @elbanditoroso said in that they are trying to save their own asses (shock). Then I saw Rep Bacon in an interview & he claimed that they were drawing straws to control who got the pleasure if vofing against Jordan because so many didn’t like or trust him & they wanted to make sure that Jeffries (a Dem) didn’t get the needed votes. Then Jordan’s MAGA maniacs started threatening the families of those voting against him & pissed them off for real. I heard one congressman say that now that his family was being threatened that he’d vote for Jeffries before he’d vote for Jordan. Now they have withdrawn their nomination extended to Jordan & considering making McHenry the temp guy until January so they can once again cover their own asses!!! Now, IF MAGA is what they believe will get them reelected, then they will support any MAGA wingnut!!! It’s sad when Margie Green is the moderate in the room!!!

Now there are ten candidates in the running. It’s lunacy.

^^Actually it makes a lot of sense. In all that chaos there seems to be at least a “fight” between the MAGA faithful and MAGA enablers but not that faithful. I see it as a good thing.
