Is this a legitimate organization?

Asked by LostInParadise (31921points) November 2nd, 2023

I received a letter from this group with Web address MedicarePhoneSupport.org. They gave a phone number for me to call about possible additional Medicare benefits. They say they are non-governmental. So who are they? How did they get my name and address? How do they they make money? Is this a scam?

They’re trying to sell you something

It sounds as though they steer possible clients to Medicare providing insurance agents.

They’re trying to sell you a private Medicare advantage program. Generally not as good as straight Medicare plus a supplemental policy.

@kritiper is correct.

I have an insurance agent who punches in my meds and other info into his computer, then tells me which plans would be best for me. He doesn’t charge for this service. I assume he’s reimbursed by the insurance agencies, and by that I don’t mean that he gets a kickback when he recommends a certain company. I suspect that all insurance companies give insurance agents, in the areas that they operate, a salary and it’s just in their budget.

I have United Health and am (mostly) happy with them. I say “mostly” because 1. they’re an insurance company and 2. they’re the largest in the world which pisses me off.
