I didn’t know it wasn’t.

Heavy sigh. This pool is stagnant.

^^ It’s kinda incestuous, huh?

chyna's avatar

^It really is.

So then let’s change this pity party into an intra-familial orgy! ;-p

It’s not? I was able to get to the final step of creating a new account. I didn’t do it but I didn’t see why I couldn’t. Or did they put the kibosh on it because of spammers?

janbb's avatar

@Caravanfan Yes, they did. If you look at Brian’s link, longgone explains the chaos it causes.

Maybe every person can get invite codes like they used to have on Blusky. That way if you send someone a legit invite code then they’re okay. IDK.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^My God. That’s so crazy, it just might work!

Doubtful. We should just be grateful that this unprofitable relic is still active at all. They’re basically keeping the lights on for us few dozen. We like it better this way than the other way, apparently. Begging for new investments in programming and administrative labor is futile. This is what it is now, and there’s not near enough energy or potential here to change.

jca2's avatar

@Smashley They get money from ads so that helps pay the bills. We who have accounts don’t see the ads, but anybody else who comes across this site does.

janbb's avatar

@jca2 I doubt they’re making much money from ad revenue any more. I think they’re just paying the server fees out of goodness.

The idea of invites isn’t a bad one except for me personally, I wouldn’t want many of my friends and relations IRL involved here.

I may as well come clean, I’m a robot. I’m only here, because I didn’t have to pick the squares that had bicycles in them…
We robots have capabilities you humans couldn’t even dream of.
We just…..have trouble, with very simple images…

I only exist, in the hardware on your device.
A being made of pure light!

@MrGrimm888 You’re very wordy for a robot.

jca2's avatar

@janbb I agree with you about the idea of invites. I thought the same thing. Since we’re such a small group, it would be very easy if a friend came here and knew I was here, to figure out which Jelly I am.

It’s nice not having to deal with lots of spam every day but on the other hand, it’s kind of boring with no new Jellies around. I guess ya gotta take the good with the bad.

jca2's avatar

I wonder if it’s open to newbies now because I just flagged a spam post from a new user (on the thread about marijuana gummies), 5/31/24.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@jca2 November 5, 2021 was the date that the user joined.

@RedDeerGuy1 You found the question? Can you link it?

MrGrimm888's avatar

So. If no new people can join, how would someone let Fluther know if one of us passed away?

smudges's avatar

We’ve already covered that – see the second question down from this one. What would new people have to do with being notified of a death?
