I'm looking for the name of a particular children's book. Gwynna??

Asked by zina (1661points) August 9th, 2007

I think the name had Gw in the beginning, maybe Q? Something like Gwenna? Or longer?

It's the story of a long-haired girl in a forest who's growing wings like an owl, and the tree gives her it's moss (which becomes a GORGEOUS green dress), I think she talks with other animals in the story as well...... beautiful illustrations..... Is this ringing any bells for anyone?

Not GREEN MANSIONS, w. Rima the bird girl? "She has dark hair, a smock of spider webs, is barefoot, and can communicate with birds in an unknown tongue." From Wikipedia. Locale is Guyana.. but it is a 1904 novel for adults. Maybe someone simplified it for children. Certainly a gentle fantasy, particularly compared to todays'.

I found it! I found it! If anyone's interested --- Gwinna, by Barbara Helen Berger. Totally off on the long hair, but that's memory for you.
