My girlfriend watches True Blood. She totally made fun of the show when it was first advertised, and then her parents had the pilot episode on while she was at their house, and now she’s absolutely hooked. Go figure.

It’s my favorite new show. I love vampire lore, so I’d watch anyway, but the show is great. So many questions. Is the bartender a werewolf, or shape-shifter? Is Sukie part vampire? I’m so excited?

I only caught one episode, but i have to that has got to be one of the best openings ive ever seen in a TV show.

I love it. I wasn’t sure at the beginning, but can’t miss it now. It’s still not up there with Rome or Deadwood, but it’s a keeper!

@uber: That opening is so disturbing, isn’t it? In a good way!

El_Cadejo's avatar

@augustlan Rome was amazing, shame it got cut short due to budget issues, i could have watched that show for another 5 seasons at least heh

@uber: Did you ever get to see Kevin McKidd(sp?) aka Lucuis Varenes in Journeyman? That got cut, too, dammit!

El_Cadejo's avatar

i couldnt watch Journeyman every time i tried all i could think of was LUCIUS VARENES!!! he played the role to good, ill always think of him in that role

Every time I see him in something, I think “Lucius!” After the initial shock of hearing him speak “American” english, I really did like the show though.

I love True Blood. It’s done me so much good because from childhood I’ve been terrified of vamps. But now scarey Bill has shown me how nice they are. And the whole political
vampire scene – I didn’t know it was so complex.
By the “opener” do you mean the fabulously creepy song/images? I too think
those are grand except it freaks me out when the fox with the maggots on it comes on.
I have to cover my eyes at that.
I LOVE the constant juxtaposition of steamy sex and countrified religiosity.

I’m addicted to this show. It’s my new addiction until the L word comes onon showtime. Her brother is such an idiot though….

i like how it’s set in Louisiana with the moss hanging from the trees and the old cemeteries. i also like the relationship between Sookie and Bill. I am curious if she will turn into a vampire now.

I started watching this series after it had already been done with its first season. I watched all the repeats. I love the show! Its an original vampire story unlike the other ones and I like the characters in it. Its not as good as the Twilight series in my opinion but it definetly had my interest and I will be looking forward to the 2nd season.

I love the series. i cant wait to see what they do with the next book/season

@emmy23 – Twilight doesnt hold a candle to The Southern Vampire Series considering the Sookie Stackhouse stories are actually well written and not as depleted as the Twilight series is. Charlaine Harris wrote/continues to write plots full of surprise/twists/intrigue/genuine entertainment. While Stephanie Meyer, in my opinion, really needs to rethink a career as an author. I’m over critical when it comes to books about vampires. It just happens. But I cannot say anything good about Twilight. Honestly, it seems like Meyer had no idea what she was going to write when she wrote it. That she would spend several chapters with dry/dull material before inspiration hit and she revealed a minor glimpse at what could potentially be a good story…however that glimpse was fleeting. the characters are WAY too one dimensional and i’m sorry but the teenage drama is completely OVER done. an entire four hundred page novel about a girl who’s been dumped and how she is constantly facing “a hole inside” that grows at the thought of him and blah blah blah…seriously? really? thats the best thing you could come up with??

There is an episode of southpark where they say manitees are responsible for plot lines of family guy. the manitees would swim up and pick random balls that had things written on them and those balls would be put together to create the story line of for a new episode of family guy…sadly i feel stephanie meyer must have used a similar method for her novels.

@bright_eyes00 – I completely respect your opinion. I am not one of those people that will hate you because you hold a different view point than me. True Blood was amazing, Im not going to lie. But In my opinion, I liked Twilight better. I mean I wouldnt consider myself some crazy teenage fan. I am 18 and I enjoy the books because it captivates me and is very enthralling. I love the love triangle and the vampire lore in it. It holds a certain amount of every emotion. Its suspensful, funny, romantic, sad at some parts…But its alright that you dont hold the same opinion as me honestly. I wont take it personally =)

@emmy23 – sorry for the violent rant. I am only on fluther at work and i have some narrow minded co-workers that like to get me riled up because they know i am passionate about writing. my biggest problem with the story was the writing itself. the plot was good, it has potential to be better though. i think stephanie could have done much better and i hope she takes this as a learning experience. i know my first novel wasn’t that good, the story may be but i could have focused more on the writing of it. but i’m changing that with my next book and i’m only disappointed that the trend was followed through all four of her books.

i apologize for my vehement argument. i appreciate your broad minded acceptance of it too. and yeah i have been on a 12-hour shift with people that i would rather throw chairs at than work with but i’m rather argumentative when awake all night.

i hope meyer will tap into the potential she has to write her stories better instead of leaving it to the reader to piece together.

@bright_eyes00 Wow, your an author? That is impressive. I have written a couple of stories for fun but have done nothing to publish them or anything. They still remain in my spiral notebook at home.

As far as the work thing..I definetly understand that. I am a waitress so I have to deal with co workers that I cant stand and the annoying public. Sometimes its very hard to go in with a happy face and pretend like everything is ok.

So ya, I take no offense to your view points on Twilight. This is a really cheesy quote..but o well haha..Different strokes for different folks dont laugh lmao

The book series got me absolutely hooked. I don’t necessarily agree with some of the casting choices based on Ms. Harris’ descriptions, but it’s totally believable that a barmaid from the swamps can be the centerpiece of the supernatural world, and be a size 8 to boot.I’m waiting for the witches to out themselves next.

I like that the show is different from the books. Not terribly so, but enough that even if you watch the show and then read the books (or the other way around), there are still surprises for you.

I also happen to be a fan of maenads, of course.
