What is a good substitute for lemon juice?

Asked by Comedian (1123points) October 26th, 2008

My sister recently got a kitten and it’s a bit bitty. We don’t have any lemon juice or lemons, so I was wondering what a good substitute for that is.

Blow on it’s face every time s/he bites you, it does wonders. Plus, they get a cute expression cause they don’t know what’s happening. Win / win!

Water in a spray bottle, 1 little spray every time s/he bites you.

Spray it with a pink water bottle?

I’m curious. If the cat is biting you how does lemon juice help? Are you going to take a bath in it?

@JP: It’s bitter, cats DO NOT WANT!

Try hissing at the cat. We hiss at my boyfriend’s cat when he misbehaves. It works really well.

When the cat misbehaves, not my boyfriend. It would be totally unfair to hiss at the cat because the boyfriend was in the wrong.

@asmonet :: I know. But you would have to put it on a place that the cat was biting for them to taste it. I am assuming that people are the things getting bitten.

Lemon juice in the spray water gets in the cat’s eyes and burns a little. A tiny, tiny bit
of vinegar would do the same thing. But blowing is nicer. What a good idea.

I wouldn’t like it if someone sprayed lemon juice in my eyes either! Is water really not enough? I mean, I don’t have a cat, but putting lemon juice in the water just seems cruel!

The lemon juice goes on your hands guys, generaly the area most exposed to kitten bites.

@jp: I know I just couldn’t resist bringing cat macros to Fluther. :D

So you’re supposed to walk around with lemon juice on your hands whenever you’re in you’re at home? Doesn’t that get annoying? What do you do, keep a lemon next to your sink? After you wash your hands, instead of lotion you put lemon juice on your hands?

Comedian's avatar

no you just do it when you are holding the kitten. It’s like teething or something so when it tries to bite your hands it doesn’t like the taste of the lemon juice so it learns not to bite

@chica: Yeah, what Comedian said. You only really need a bit on your fingers and wrists, and on the plus side, your hands smell lemony fresh.

or just spray pure lemmon juice into its eyes for no reason at all
