Do car mechanics make a lot of money?

Not in the beginning. I went to a shop and was making $230 a week when I started doing it 8 years ago. It also depends on how you are paid. If you get paid per labor hour and not per actual hour then you can technically put in more time then you are there.

For example, you might put in a 40 hour work week but charge for 50 hours. Some shops will charge you the estimated labor no matter how long (or short a time) it took to fix your car.

Here’s an article about the generalities of auto mechanic salary. Keep in mind their tier I mechanic is one who’s already good at what they do.

Mechanics also have their own tools. This can be a very heavy investment. It takes a long time for the mechanic career choice to pay off.
