Are there any other examples in US history where the results of a presidential election resulted in celebratory street parties?

I just asked my dad who is in his late 50s, and he could not recall anything. He has lived in VT his entire life. My friend and I were discussing the other day whether or not the Obama street parties were the first of their kind. JFK perhaps?

Great question. I’m hoping for some real answers.

In the meantime, I can’t help but share this fabulous photo I took as the whole friggin city of SF celebrated in the streets.

No – I don’t remember anything like this in my lifetime. The only thing comparable that I’ve heard of (wasn’t around for) were the street parties when World War II. ended.

I know I never cried with happiness after any other election.
