Why don't camera makers put bluetooth in the cameras?

Asked by Mtl_zack (6778points) November 28th, 2008

It would be so much easier to transfer photos from camera, phone and computer.

Not really, it would be far slower. Is it that important to not have to plug in one cord?

Because its so damned slow. Wifi would be better…

Not only that but bluetooth would be a drain on the battery. People complain about camera battery life already.

You might look into something like this. It will upload your pictures automatically when you are in wifi range.

As said before, it’s all about the battery-life, not to mention, for most people, they are nowhere near a computer, or WiFi when they are taking their pictures.
There are many options though, if you want a set up like that. There are some Nikon point-and-shoots that have WiFi, and some Sony PnS (point-and-shoot) cameras. But if you have a DSLR, there is a plethora of options to chose from. There are plugins to attach BlueTooth to your camera, AirCards, or WiFi transmitters. I have synced my camera to my computer, then the computer to my iPhone, allowing me to take a picture, immediately transfer it to the computer, then using my iPhone as an AirCard, put it right on my .Mac… oh sorry, MobileMe, server.

Again and again.. bluetooth is just a few wavelengths longer than wifi, but wifi can travel extreeeemely fast, bluetooth on the other hand i believe is still somewhere just below the 5mb/s range

Wifi N is twice as fast and almost twice the distance that G can do.

Hence you have the Eye-Fi SD card

Times I like to have a lot of things wireless, but popping my SD card out of my camera and sticking it in the side of my laptop and getting insanely fast transfer speeds… keeps me away from being any more lazy :)
