Question for women who have kids only?

Asked by everval (126points) December 1st, 2008

After you had your first baby, did you feel that your life has passed so quickly and felt some sort of nostalgic sadness… that you couldn’t explain? Not precisely depression, but felt… nostalgic?

I had my kids very young. I sort of felt that way, but I decided that having my children so young would give me plenty of time when I was older to experience life. My kids were all 18 by the time I was 41. My husband and I have been traveling the world. We have time and money, something I didn’t have when I was younger. Life is good.
Sometimes you have to “choose” how you will react to things. When I found out I was going to be a teen mother I had choices. I could abort (not an option for me spiritually) I could get depressed, or I could embrace the idea. I chose the last. I loved being a mom and growing up with my kids. Finding the positive in every situation has served me well.

Yes I did! It seems like all I did was blink, and now she is a Mom herself. Just this morning she told me she feels kind of sad because her son is already 3 months, so the same is happening to her!

Absolutely! I also feel that way when they reach milestones, like going to school, turning into teens, etc. I think the nostalgia is part of the process and part of the fear. Time does fly.

Nothing in the world makes time fly like having a child.

But, oh, is the journey worth occassional bouts of melancholy and moments of hair pulling frustration. Those sweet smiles, hugs and kisses just melt my heart.
