I think they will get sucked in to it or stuck to the screen..Wait, is it an under sand or gravel filter?

ctimm15's avatar

nah its above the sand its a crystal clear AQUARIUM FILTER 200

ctimm15's avatar

its a three stage filter that uses carbon, sponge and mechanics to filter it

Sea monkeys do not require a filter- in fact, they eat algae. And it never really gets TOO out of hand. If you think it’s getting gross, you can scrape down the algae on the sides, and then suck it up with a turkey baster, trying to avoid the little sea babies.

Enjoy your new shrimpies! I love sea monkeys. I want to get some more. I had a set that lived for 2 years!

Two years! I had some live 2 weeks the only time I tried farming sea monkeys.

i have had sea monkeys before there very cute but when i had them last time they died ‘cause i didn’t know they needed a aerator so they died

ctimm15's avatar

and they also pooped alot and my water got dirty

tonedef's avatar

You don’t need an aerator if there’s algae in there! Another good reason to lose the pump. Let the monkeys and the algae live in harmony in a sunny windowsill. Once the algae starts growing, you can even stop feeding them, and it’ll sustain itself. Just keep the water level up.

yeh but i like my water to be clear and not green and the booklet tells me that i should have a aerator

ctimm15's avatar

and cant i just put some kind of mesh over the sucking part of the filter

ctimm15's avatar

witch i just did

tonedef's avatar

But! NOT cleaning the algae can prevent you from needing an aerator and a filter and even food! But if you want clear, then by all means. All I’m sayin’ is that mine lived 2 years. ;)

This is how some of these biospheres work, they have an algae, and possibly brine shrimp. In the right balance they will be perfectly symbiotic. I haven’t raised sea moneys since a Christmas 12 years ago. :D

ctimm15's avatar

i put a very small mesh over the sucking part does any one think that will work

Those little guys are gonners

Sea Monkeys are brine shrimp. If you google “Brine shrimp care” or something like that, I’m sure you’ll find lots of information on caring for your new pets. :)

Here’s one now.

i know but all i need tow things do i have to wait 24 hours for the purifier and can i stop ther from dieing by putting a mesh over the filter but thanks for the link ^

^ oops i ment to write two not tow

you dont use filters thats silly if you want to provide air you stir the water or use a straw and blow or use a syringe a filter is pointless thats for fish not fish food as sea-monkeys are related to brine shrimp this means they are food .my monkies are breeeeedin like rabbits even younger than the leaflet says i hardly feed mine cause of there natural food in the tank if you use a filter say good bye to your £6 pets and thats a waste

ctimm15's avatar

my sea monkies didn’t cost me £6 it cost me $29.99 there expensive things here in australia

ctimm15's avatar

oh by the way are you new here, if so welcome

sandystrachan's avatar

god sake thats expensive a sea monkey kit here costs as low as 2£ just depending on where you get them from!
have you still got them ?
is a filter involved
you could but a sponge filter or make one all you need is a fine sponge a bit or pvc /silicon tube and a balloon.

sandystrachan's avatar

I bought mine a new special 13Ltr fish bowl , they lived in it for ages and one day went to give them a small stir . They were all dead , even the moms that were full of eggs !
