Question regarding White Tail Deer in winter?

For those in snow country at Christmas do the stags have the rack or have they dropped them. When- if at all- do they drop their antlers?

I am researching a wildlife painting and want to be sure that if I paint early winter (December) that is it accurate to paint the rack on the stag. Now I know I am good to go!
