Should I seek medical attention?

Asked by PublicBlog (295points) March 8th, 2009

My depth perception has been “off key” this week leading to numorous cuts and slits in my right hand; left hand dominant. During this time I’ve managed to prick myself three times while working on a project etc.

Yesterday night I had accidentally pierced my skin yet again; not as a surface scratch like the two before but a gash that left me numb and bloody. It was the muscle joint between the thumb and index finger. When I had first seen it it reminded me of a valley aligned with flesh walls. I immediately pushed pressure onto the wound and wrapped it within a band-aid. Later that day I had washed off the surrounding area and applied Polysporin ointment when it was available to me.

The cut is about 1cm & 1/2 width and length.
Over night the muscle tissue inside of the opening had mended back into one piece but remains tender. Should I allow my body to recuperate on its own or ask for medical treatment—stitches?

Wow… I’m not sure about the cut itself, but I think I’d seek medical attention for the depth perception problem.

Isn’t the more important question “why is this happening”. You do need to see a Dr. to determine the depth perception. Augustlan said it before me.

Time to get an analysis of the underlying cause. Do not wait until you injure yourself seriously.

@chyna &auguestlan
I’m not frequently cutting into myself.. pure coincidents on the time peiod between them. Time comsuming project that involves shape utensils, thats it.

I wasn’t implying that you are cutting into yourself on purpose. But if your depth perception is off, there is a reason for it. This could be really bad if you drive.

I think the depth perception thing is much more important than the wound on your hand. See a doctor!

Yes. Go to a doctor if it is deep, you might also want to get tetnus shot if you have not had one in a while. And that doctor might be able to recommend someone to talk to about your “depth perception” issue or any other “issues” you have.

Do you have a picture of the wound?
And I agree, get your eyes checked!

When was your last tetanus shot?

Is this a test? Yes absolutely.

If you have to ask if you should see a doctor, the answer is always YES

I like DrBill’s answer—it makes sense. Also, I would agree to either calm down and move more slowly when you are using sharp instruments, or, if your depth perception is off, do get that checked out as well.
