I take online classes and I like it. I think you will find different opinions here, however.

I’ve taken both at my university. I find that I understand the material better by actually going to the class, but online classes are a bit more convenient if you work full-time and don’t want to attend night classes. Also, I need to add that just because it’s an online course, doesn’t mean it’s easy by any means. There’s just as much work involved, maybe even more. I found it a bit hard to keep up with all the online readings.

I am currently taking three online classes and three traditional classes. I like the online classes, but since I lack self-discipline I have to work really hard not to get behind.

The content of the course matters. If the course is about memorizing facts from a text, then writing, discussing, and taking tests, online would be fine. But if the content is better handled with personal interaction, or involves collaborative lab/studio work, or when instant feedback about ideas or solutions is necessary, then traditional is better.

@simpleD good point, there are definitely classes that are better served in traditional classrooms.

I like taking online courses, personally. I’m currently taking two of them. But, if it were math I’d need to be in the classroom getting direct help, because I’m not great at math. It definitely depends on the subject. I really like having the set schedule and never having to go onto campus. It’s really nice.

i haven’t taken any online classes yet, except a driving permit one, so my opinion doesn’t really * count *. but i really am not into the idea of it. partly because i know i’d end up getting distracted. partly because i don’t like reading a lot online. and i don’t know, i just am not into everything being based around a computer. i hate using a computer in school, i’d rather just stick to pen and paper personally.

This is a great question. As with online classes, opinions may vary or shall i say it all depends on the situation. I will use myself as an example. I am a horrible math guy, I took Survey of Modern Mathematics online, and it did not turn out so hot. I ended up re-taking the course.

So, i guess to sum it up, if you would take an online course. You would want to take something that you know you can handle and does not need “live or one-on-one” interaction. For something like, a lot of reading, and some small interactions required such as posting on discussion board, it doesn’t seem to bad.

Online classes i think are not self-paced since there are some deadlines and required number of hours logged in to be able to successfully complete the course.

There are both advantage and disadvantage of online class.. For some easy A’s, i will definitely take online class..

I haven’t tried any yet, but it sounds like a good idea if you can manage your time well.

I’ve only taken regular ones, but I know that I’d loathe online courses, I lack the attention span, I’d get distracted by something shinier on the internet.
