Well I wanted to be a smartaleck and say “No” but then I would have answered your question. I love to answer questions to be helpful when possible and snarky when necessary.

None of the above.

I answer questions to help others, and to clarify my thoughts and feelings on issues. I never care to change someone’s position, however I do care in providing them with a different point of view.

To be helpful. Sometimes if I like the funny banter that’s going on during a thread, I’ll interject just to socialize. Yeah, I admit it.

good question.. i really enjoy sharing my opinion for at least two reasons.

1) if i have the best recipe for apple pie, i think i should share it. same goes for if i have an answer to any of life’s little problems/questions. help where you can.

2) by sharing an opinion (or on this site, an “answer”) you get to throw yourself to the sharks to see if your way of thinking is sound. if it is sound, it should be able to stand up to close scrutiny. If it is not sound, then why would i want to hold on to it? I would hope that if any of my deeper understandings of the world around me were wrong that someone would readily tell me so that I could stop living my life as a lie.

i’m a truism seeker. :)

I was trying to edit my answer when my computer decided it didn’t want me to edit.

The other times I answer questions – usually my opinion is the polar opposite of what the person (asker) is trying to say, I just have to post! It’s an illness…I cannot control the urge to argue the opposite side of something. My poor husband has experienced this many, many times. Poor man! :)

I try to provide a useful answer to the question.

If the question is not serious or if serious good answers have already been given, and the question lends itself to it, I amuse myself with a quip answer.
